Somehow, Ryan Murphy’s ultra-sexy drama series is not getting made at HBO — despite starring Anna Torv, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jaimie Alexander, Michelle Monaghan, Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley.

HBO has shut the door on Open, the Glee and American Horror Story co-creator’s risque take on modern romance that was described as “a multicharacter exploration of the complex, ever evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships.”

The premium network’s programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement: “After such a triumphant collaboration with The Normal Heart, everyone felt that Open was not the right next step for all involved. However, we fully expect to work together again in the near future.”

The decision is somewhat surprising given Murphy’s hit-making track record. In the pilot, co-written by Lauren Gussis, Torv was to play a yoga instructor in a long-term relationship with Leigh’s character, while Monaghan played a gynecologist whose marriage and sexuality come into question after an airplane bathroom fling with Torv’s yoga instructor.

Another video! Anna talks about the role and Heavenly Sword will be up for sale next week, September 2nd.

It’s been nearly seven years since the world last saw Heavenly Sword. Next Tuesday that changes with the release of a video game to film adaptation.

We have an exclusive behind the scenes trailer for Heavenly Sword featuring Fringe star Anna Torv, who is the voice actress for protagonist Nariko. In this never before seen video, Torv and two other members of the team explain who Nariko is, and what makes her a deeply interesting character. There’s also footage from the movie shown, including a fierce battle between Nariko and the forces of King Bohan. You can see the trailer above.

Heavenly Sword closely follows the narrative of 2007?s PlayStation 3 exclusive, a game that was considered one of the system’s best games at the time, selling over one million copies in eight months. Similar to the game, Nariko becomes responsible for delivering a long-guarded magical sword to its rightful owner. Along the way she must equip the legendary weapon to slay the foes that oppose her, leading to spectacular battles.

This film resembles that of the game, as it’s been a goal since the first day of production to retain the authentic look and feel of Heavenly Sword. However, it will star three new voice actors which include the previously mentioned Anna Torv (Fringe), as well as Alfred Molina (Spider-man 2) and Thomas Jane (The Mist), all three of which have extensive experience in the film industry.

Heavenly Sword will release in both physical and digital format on September 2nd, offered by retailers including Amazon and Walmart.

Heavenly Sword’s Anna Torv Talks Movie Role

A brand new video of Anna? YES! Via Cinema Blend Anna talks about Heavenly Sword:

When Heavenly Sword originally launched for the PlayStation 3, critics and fans alike praised the game for its amazing motion capture and voice work, particularly that of the main heroine, Nariko. With Fringe star Anna Torv breathing life into the role, it’s little wonder that the actress was brought back in to play the fiery warrior yet again, this time for the Heavenly Sword animated feature.

About a year into the PS3’s cycle, Heavenly Sword screamed onto the scene as one of the new generation’s earliest over-the-top action romps, featuring a legendary hero with fiery hair and a blade that has the ability to change history. While a proper sequel to Heavenly Sword never surfaced, Nariko continued to live on as a combatant in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and, now, through an animated feature film. The developers at Ninja Theory have a game called Hellblade coming out but, despite the name and a new heroine that looks a lot like Nariko’s sidekick, Kai, the studio promises that the two games are unrelated.

Last year, it was announced that work was underway for a Heavenly Sword movie and that much of the original cast was being sought to help tell the game’s tale a second time. Anna Torv was eager to become Nariko once more, as she reveals in her recent behind-the-scenes interview courtesy of Cinedigm. You can check out the footage in the exclusive video above, featuring interviews with the filmmakers and more. Torv discusses the difficulties of getting into a character via motion capture, as well as how acting for video games differs from acting for film.

For those of you who are looking forward to checking out the movie, you won’t actually have to wait much longer, as Heavenly Sword releases on DVD and Blu-ray this coming Tuesday, Sept. 2. You’ll be able to snag it for 15 bucks in the former format or $19.97 for the latter. Weighing in at 85 minutes in length, you’ll be able to follow the quest for the titular weapon in a brand new way, promising lots of action and Nariko kicking the crud out of pretty much anyone silly enough to get in her way. For a better look at what you can expect, don’t forget to take a gander at the movie trailer below. And, for more details, be sure to check out the movie’s official website.

“I’m honoured to bring such an important story to audiences, in Australia and around the world.”

Anna attended the Oceana’s SeaChange Gala yesterday, here are pictures. Thanks @Babi for the heads up!

Hey guys! New project for Anna! WOOHOO!

Hey, all you Fringe fans, get ready to freak out!

The one-and-only Anna Torv is making her grand return to TV since her five-year run on Fox’s beloved sci-fi hit ended, but this time she’s headed to premium cable. Torv is the latest actress to sign on to Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated HBO drama, Open.
But she’s not the only big name to sign on today. Critically acclaimed actress Jennifer Jason Leigh will also be joining Torv on Murphy’s sexy new series.

Although most of the details are hush-hush, Open has been described as a “modern and provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships.” Sounds intriguing!

Torv will shake off her Peter-loving persona in this new series playing Windsor, a yoga instructor who has been in a long-term relationship with Holly, played by Leigh. However, Torv’s affections for her lady may falter because once she meets mysterious character named Grace, she feel an instant connection.

The actresses join Open alongside the previously announced cast including Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley. We’re going to keep our fingers crossed that Murphy will find additional roles for Joshua Jackson and John Noble so we have have our entire Fringe family back together!
