Fringe 4×03 Alone in the World Ratings

Looks like the ratings were up a bit in comparison to last week. It’s very important to watch live folks!

CBS won the nights with adults 18-49. At 8pm, A Gifted Man was steady with a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating. At 9pm CSI: NY was down a tenth to a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating. Blue Bloods was up a tenth to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and was again the night’s highest-rated and most-watched program. Fox was second for the night led by Kitchen Nightmares with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating at 8pm which was down 12% from last week. Fringe was up a tenth versus last week to a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating.

Ratings: Renewed Fringe Spawns Better Demos

Fringe was treated to a little icing on its Season 4 renewal cake this Friday, in the form of a 15 percent gain in the coveted 18-49 demo (returning to a 1.5 rating). The Fox drama also saw a small uptick in total audience, to 3.9 million viewers. (What did you think of the white-knuckle ride that was last night’s episode?!)

Elsewhere… well, there’s not much else to see here. But let’s try, shall we?

* CBS’ coverage of the NCAA basketball tourney enjoyed the night’s best demos (2.7) and averaged just over 8 million viewers, peaking at 10 o’clock with north of 10 mil.

* Dateline NBC was Friday’s most watched program, averaging 8.11 million viewers over its two-hour run.

* And ABC’s Shark Tank officially opened its new season with 4.8 million viewers and a fourth place-worthy 1.2 rating.

Ratings: Foul! Fringe Hits a Friday Low

The Daylight Saving Time demons, in tandem with the NCAA, conspired this Friday to knock Fox’s Fringe down a peg. As a result, the stellar sci-fi drama dipped to a 1.3 demo rating — its lowest to date in the Friday slot.

Yet… I will point out in a glass-half-full way, Fringe inched up a barely perceptible (and thus, wiser men than I will argue, statistically insignificant) amount in total viewers, to 3.8 million.

But really, aside from Anna Torv and her Emmy-caliber work, there were no winners this Friday, as folks either retired to the backyard to play Jarts or immersed themselves in March Madness. Yet you’re here and I’m here, so:

* CBS’ aforementioned college hoops coverage averaged 4.52 million total viewers across its three-hour prime-time run, scoring a 1.5 demo rating.

* The series finale of ABC’s Supernanny drew 4.45 million viewers. Now stop teasing your sister, Jeremy! And put down those matches!! (From here on it takes a village, people.)

* NBC’s Dateline was Friday’s (faint praise alert!) most watched program, averaging 7 million viewers. Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares meanwhile netted the night’s “best” demos, delivering a 1.6.

TV Ratings: Fringe Steady

CBS won the night with adults 18-49 and total viewers on a Friday though there might have been some local preemptions for college basketball tournaments that could cause adjustments in the finals.

CBS’s The Defenders was steady versus last week with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. CSI: NY was up 18% from its last original to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating and Blue Bloods was up 11% to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating.

Fox was second with adults 18-49 for the night as Kitchen Nightmares won the hour with a 1.7 rating. Fringe was steady with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating.

NBC and ABC tied for third with adults 18-49 for the night with a mix of unscripted programming and news coverage in the aftermath of the major earthquake off the coast of Japan.

I’m pretty sure next week we’ll have an increase, since Anna is playing William Bell.

‘Fringe steady in Friday ratings

Blue Bloods fans must be finding the show now that it’s back on Fridays (again). The CBS drama (11.6 million viewers, 1.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) was up 13 percent to tie lead-in CSI: NY (10.8 million, 1.7) as the night’s highest-rated show. Only downside for CBS was that Defenders (8.7 million, 1.2) slipped another tenth.

Fox’s Fringe (4 million, 1.5) won praise from fans for its portrayal of Olivia and Peter as kids (EW recap here). The drama was steady with last week — which on one hand is a relief and on the other a bit frustrating (those ratings are still bubble country). CBS and Fox tied, the latter also airing Kitchen Nightmares (3.7 million, 1.6).

ABC and NBC tied too, with ABC averaging 4.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating and NBC averaging 5.9 million viewers and a 1.3 for their respective unscripted and news magazine blocks.

The CW’s Smallville (2.5 million, 1.0) and Supernatural (2.2 million, 1.0) were flat.

‘Fringe Friday Night Ratings Up

Good news for ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Fringe’ fans: The curse of the Friday night “Death Slot” may just be weakening.

Or perhaps Joshua Jackson’s personal appeal to fans to boost ‘Fringe’ ratings is paying dividends. Whatever, it was a good week for both series: According to TVLine.com audience figures bucked recent trends and rose Friday night.

In fact, most scripted shows posted good ratings Friday night. ‘Blue Bloods’ held its position as the most-watched show, even though its audience numbers were down 10 percent from its recent Wednesday night airing. The big loser was ‘Smallville,’ which saw a decline in viewers to 2.2 million, a fall of 5 percent.

‘Supernatural’ had a 15 percent rise — to 2.26 million — in total number of viewers, and a 24 percent increase in the much-coveted age 18-49 demographic, hitting a solid 1.0. Over on FOX at the same time, ‘Fringe’ saw its audience rise 10 percent to 4.06 million, and saw its demographic ratings rise 7 percent, to 1.5.

‘Fringe’ fans have been fretting about the fate of the offbeat drama since it moved to the much-dreaded Friday night, and despite reassuring messages from producers, viewing figures have been steadily declining. However, it seems like TVSquad was correct in predicting last week that it could finally be heading in a positive direction.

‘Supernatural’ creator Eric Kripke originally planned the Winchester saga as a five-season drama, but The CW commissioned a sixth season after it garnered consistently high ratings. Under new showrunner Sera Gamble the show’s struggled to attract viewers on Friday nights, so this week’s turnaround will be welcome news.

TV Ratings Friday: ‘Fringe’ Holds Steady

Fox won Friday night with adults 18-49 and 18-34. In its second Friday, Fringe once again averaged a 1.9 rating with adults 18-49 even though its lead in, Kitchen Nightmares was down two tenths from last week to a 1.7 rating with adults 18-49.

It was a mish-mash Friday where other than Fox’s lineup, only Primetime What Would You Do?, 20/20 and Dateline NBC were originals.

Some CW fans were very upset that the CW changed the schedule on Thursday afternoon to delay the returns of originals of Smallville and Supernatural by a week, instead opting for a variety of reasons to air encores of Thursday’s The Vampire Diaries (0.6 adults 18-49 rating in the repeat) and Nikita (0.4 adults 18-49 rating) on Friday night.

Some of those fans were even more upset once they saw that CW’s fears around American Idol and some local preemptions didn’t come to pass and The Vampire Diaries and Nikita had a strong Thursday outing. Look for more outrage from DVR viewers who got repeats of The Vampire Diaries and Nikita instead of Smallville and Supernatural. My series recording settings for Supernatural on my DVR (Comcast) did indeed pick up Nikita. The perils of last minute schedule changes.

‘Fringe’ makes Friday debut, doesn’t drop in ratings!

By some miracle of magic or science, Fox’s Fringe moved to Friday night and did not go down in the ratings.

The episode — titled “The Firefly” (nicely ironic considering the show’s move to Fox’s infamous Death Slot) — actually improved upon its most recent Thursday performance.

Fringe, which featured Christopher Lloyd as a guest star, delivered 4.9 million viewers and a 1.9 preliminary adults 18-49 rating last night. That’s right in line with its Thursday season average. Remember, Fox’s Kevin Reilly said if the show maintains its Thursday numbers on Friday, he’d renew it, so let’s hope the drama can keep this up. (Ken Tucker’s recap here).

The premiere of Kitchen Nightmares (4.3 million, 1.9) served up a solid lead-in for Fringe, and overall Fox was able to win the night. In fact, this was Fox’s highest-rated Friday with entertainment programs since 2008.

Fox was helped by CBS airing repeats at 9 and 10 p.m., but first the network aired the series finale of Medium, which posted a rather uneventful number (7.8 million, 1.6) for its last episode.

‘Fringe’ shines creatively but falters in ratings; fans still flock to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

by Lynette Rice

It was arguably the best, most original episode of Fringe to date. Too bad so many of you missed it: Only 5.1 million people tuned into the Fox drama Thursday night, which was also down 5 percent in adults 18 to 49 (1.8 rating/5 share) from its most recent airing on Nov. 18. If this genre series were on AMC (or featured zombies), the media world would be calling it a monster hit. Sadly, the threshold for success is far different on broadcast TV, so Fringe will always be viewed as a niche performer with a small but rabid fan base. Let’s hope it finds a far more comfortable home on Fridays where it’ll face less competition.
