Aside from a contract as part of J.J. Abrams’ series Fringe, FOX has offered Anna a two-picture deal.
After seeing the pilot episode of Fringe, New York Magazine described Anna Torv as having “Blanchettesque good looks” and as someone who “will be appearing in the fevered dreams of nerds all too soon”. She has been touted as the next Cate Blanchett, who also hails from Melbourne, Australia.
Anna attended Benowa High School in Gold Coast, Australia.
Anna beat out over 300 other hopefuls from the US and 40 from Australia for the role of Olivia Dunham in the FOX series Fringe. It was WB Movieworld casting agent Tom McSweeney who helped find Torv. Even prior to seeing Anna read dialogue from Fringe, J.J. Abrams already knew she was the right girl for the role when he saw her audition tape for an Australian show.
Finding it difficult to find a job, Anna lived off her credit card while staying in London in 2006.
Anna shares her name with an aunt who was married to her billionaire uncle Rupert Murdoch.
Anna is the daughter of Hot Tomato Broadcasting Company CEO and co-owner Hans Torv. The radio station is based in Gold Coast, Australia.
She has a brother named Dylan.
